Hilarie Houghton discusses the places in life where joy and grief intersect, the delicate space where authenticity abounds. On May 15, 2017, Hilarie gave birth to her daughter, Hollis Olivia, and soon learned of the newborn's rare and fatal genetic disorder called non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH). Six short days later, Hilarie and her husband said goodbye to their daughter. The week proved to be the most beautiful and the most difficult time of their lives. Their strong network of friends and family gave them the space to grieve well -- both publicly and privately -- and pointed to Christ as the true source of hope. Today, Hilarie continues to rely on this same hope to work through her grief, while championing the idea that "joy comes with the mourning."
